His Dark Materials (The Golden Compass)

Post by Tache »

I am just finishing up the last book and have not really read much fantasy but enjoyed this 3 part series. What would you guys recommend I read now? The Sword of Truth series? I am digging fantasy reading now. Thanks, Mike

Yeah, I'd say it's probably the most well written series I've read in the fantasy genre. While it is technically fantasy (it's referred to as high fantasy), it's not all that common for shit like magic or dragons or w/e to actually be involved in the story. There is some, but most of the story is centered on the politics of the world in which it's set. There are 4 books out now, a 5th is due soon. A Game of Thrones is first, and it takes a couple hundred pages to get really interesting, but it's worth sticking with it because the rest of the series is brilliant.

Fab: im me toolbag

Thanks Web / Aus: I made it past the 200 page mark, and it wasn't even that hard to get that far and I am now engrossed. The hardest part is learning all of the characters in the beginning.
