I guess it depends what you like and what you're looking for. In terms of other epic high fantasy or whatever the hell they're calling this sort of thing now, I have yet to encounter anything even remotely as good as A Song of Ice and Fire, and what there is, I haven't really enjoyed all that much; Malazan, etc. I guess that the next best thing is The Wheel of Time, but......its nowhere near the same level. To be succinct, Jordan's characters are pretty dopey and predictable and it hurts the story overall. That said, there are a ton of great suggestions on the forum here and there at the least, is not anything posted that isn't worth reading. I'll reiterate what I said in the thread I made for it, that the Mistborn books are really good. Sanderson puts a spin on magic that is pretty interesting and inventive, and I got a lot of pleasure from seeing it put into action and being able to clearly understand it. More often than not authors give us a "And then Bobby drew unimaginable amounts of power and vaporized all the bads and everything was great", and I hate that shit. Tell me how it works, make it seem plausible, help your readers understand why it works, not only that it does.
Anyway....if you want to try something sort of light and fun, the Gentlemen Bastards series is really good. If you want something a little more.....emotionally involved, all of Robin Hobb's work (excepting the Soldier's Son books which sucked) is amazing, as is Kay's Tigana.
