fast food? EWW!

i hate fast food, its so gross. the only "FastFood" i eat is Subway. and when i do its rarely.

and the Meat and Fish! Thats my favorite food (well meat ~_~)

I'll have to start eating salad >.>

I don't think i'll miss the junk food. Maybe the rarely Chocolate, but I remember when i used to eat too much and how disgusting it feels afterwards. After eating to much junk food , you don't feel good at all =(, So I won't care taking junk food out of my life :D

I've only been drinking water, and its awesome. I would of drinked some "Pasion Fruit" but when i read it, it has soo much sugar, and its only 20% Juice. So I rather not drink it :D

even though it is not the leanest of meats, I highly recommend 'grass fed' lamb. Not cheap, but one of the healthiest red meats, given the high volume of L-Carnatine present. Often you can find racks of lamb cheap at Costco.

I'm going to start a diet-meal thread here to get some ideas going about good lunches/dinners people can make for not too much money, and will last a few days. I find that eating is one of the most important parts of cutting weight, and planning out meals makes life so much simpler.

There shoud probably be a whole new thread about water hydration. It makes aches and pains go away. It lets your body go faster, harder, longer, further, etc. Someone, Hummy?, mentioned it already but yea, its very important. Maybe I'll look up the facts about it and make a new post. Water + gatorade(not combined) will make you feel better after the work out.

Update on the fitness test I had run recently

So my last go was:

June 7th
Fat Mass: 53.5 lb
Fat Free Mass: 165.5 lb
Total Wt: 219 lb
Extracellular Mass: 83.9 lb

Here's the new results:

June 21st
Fat Mass: 51.2 lb
Fat Free Mass: 164.3 lb
Total Wt: 215.5 lb
Extracellular Mass: 82.3 lb

So all in all, good drop in fat mass, but losing a bit of muscle in the same period. Going to tune up my protein intake, as I think a few days I've not gotten the adequate amount.

around the beginning of the summer, i came to this site and then i started a "diet".
well actually it wasn't much of a diet at all, and I also stopped that half the way of the summer, around july 4 i had gone from 205 pounds to 189 pounds, and that was basically JUST for completely cutting Soda and sweets out of my life.

after that i pretty much stopped doing the diet, and i did have some sweets, like in my birthday dinner. after my birthday, on a monday, I wanted to really start a new diet, i looked into just doing a low calorie diet. So I started the diet.

Now I am 180 pounds, and i started this new diet 3 weeks ago. losing 3 pounds per week. I wasn't exercising a lot either.

I know maybe low calorie/low fat diets aren't the best, but I am losing weight with it.

Use the menshealth.com forums. You can find a lot of free info there. The Abs diet is one of the better ones out there. You basically end up combining healthy eating, moderate portions and exercise. The amount of exercise is up to you. It all comes down to how much you want to do of course. Cutting out soda, white bread, etc from your diet will give you a good baseline, but you'll plateau pretty quickly, and eventually have to exercise and diet a little more strictly.

PS, I just got back from a bachelor party, so pls excuse any spelling mishaps., etc.

But yeah. Personally, I peaked at 230, after a lot of beer nights in college, and mostly a lot of wow raiding for 2 years. I'm 180 now, and I haven't really been super hardcore. Get some cardio, do some yoga, do some lifting. Tonight, I went out with some friends before going out to the bar, and I ate whatever the fuck I wanted. You have to enjoy life, and not feel too stressed to eat a certain amount/quality for every meal in your life. You need to enjoylife too :D

Overall, the best for my health and weight have been yoga and better eating. The cardio is good, but I've been able to do more cardio for longer after doing yoga for a month or so, and the lifting is just added fat burning.

Anything more than 4 lbs a week is probably unhealthy, so just realize that it's going to be slow but steady gains.

Would 2 or so Nutrigrain bars be one of my 6 helpings of food a day? Cause frankly with school and stuff I hardly ever have the time to run home and eat that many times a day.

Yeah dude. The whole idea here is to fit your diet to your lifestyle. So if you are at school most of the day, pack some things to take with you. Typically when I'm at school and I need to be eating while I'm gone I bring a few servings of almonds in ziploc bags. I try to avoid pre-made protein bars due to the poor quality of protein in them.

I always bring a bunch of small items to eat between classes when I'm on campus. I usually have 3-4 classes back to back w/ just 10 minutes in between, so I have 10 minutes to walk across campus and eat ~250-350 calories usually. I just bring things like little boxes of raisins, bags of almonds (or other nuts), string cheese, apples/bananas, and ThinkThin protein bars ( https://www.thinkproducts.com/6think.htm ). I avoid most protein bars as well since they're usually just candybars w/ protein, too much excess sugar. These Thinkthin ones are sugar free, low glycemic though so I like them. I also usually bring one of those Starbucks travel coffee cups with protein powder in it. Just add water at some point and drink it during class.

I came to the VM boards to look at bad applications (I end up doing odd things during study breaks) and ended up interested by this subject. Thought I'd interject my opinion a moment. I'm just about to finish up a degree in exercise physiology and biology before I move onto medical school next year, so I'm not completely worthless on the subject :)

@Biffins' most recent post:
Regarding carnitine supplements, as you've probably read or had explained by your nutritionist, it's amazing for decreasing fat. Fat is insoluble and needs to cross the mitochondria, so it uses carnitine as a shuttle before stored fats can be utilized for energy. Thing is, once you begin to condition your body to use fats as a fuel source, particularly considering your constant cardio workouts, you'll see a change in your muscle fibers.

Type I fibers, slow fibers used in endurance training, tends to stay at a constant level. As you do more endurance/interval training, though, you go from type IIb (the big, beefy lifting muscle fibers) to type IIa, which is kind of a hybrid slow-fast. The IIa weighs less due to a smaller diameter, which accounts for your lost in FFM. It is more efficient with energy and better for cardio, though!

It's good to ensure you're loaded up on proteins for maximal muscle building. Just don't worry too much about your FFM decreases if you've just begun training, since your body will be changing that around to accommodate your new activities.
