Re: Living Legacy
Quellious server is pretty bumping... over 320+ Looking for groups/raids at peak hours. A lot of nice people were there to help me grasp all the new stuff they put in and the community seems to be really tight. There are a lot of amazing features and concepts placed in over the years. Still some Vis players on too ~_~
Went from level 64-65 in under an hour. Have some pretty interesting Veteran AA's as well for all those who've had an account since 98~ (dbl xp for 30min every 20hrs, random summonable pets, +stat buff that is insane etc)
In my opinion, it's just as beneficial and nostalgic to check this out (or eq2) as it is to play on the Emu server.
Sadly my armor is subpar cause I ritually ended Vault so he had no armor except my banked Plane of Hate gear and my summonable epic. Still was a blast and well worth the download over night.
I can understand not having to level/gear up on the Emu, but to me all that stuff comes with the experience. The Emu server felt like Plastic, but in this day and age people are known to choose the replica over reality.
Regardless, if you get some raids going on the Emu, there's no reason why I won't be there. Just figured I'd let others know.

Re: Living Legacy
The whole idea behind the emulator server was to give us the flexibility to decide what we do, when we do it, and how hard it will be (and tune mobs appropriately).
No matter how shiny the packaging, how sweet the deal, how much fun it is to play with more people than on our emulated server, the legit servers still have one fatal flaw: it is Everquest controlled by Sony. That means camps, big raids, absurdly rare drop rates, never-ending quests, slow AA's, no teleports, and the list goes on and on. The emulator server is better simply because it is all of the good things about EQ with all of the bullshit removed. The bullshit is the reason we all quit EQ in the first place, and exactly the reason we will never go back to the live servers, even if they paid us to.
With all due respect, give up your campaign to convince us to go to the live servers. It is a futile effort.

Re: Living Legacy
The concept is interesting from a business standpoint. Obviously they are hurting for subscribers and trying to lure people back with the nostalgia feel of EQ1 or experiencing a new Norrath in EQ2. Personally I think Sony should take a look at Blizzard and how they run their game, where the emphasis is more on quality and not quantity. EQ2 has been out for relatively the same amount of time as WoW and it already has like 4 expansions or something. I think that's what ultimately killed the original EQ for a lot of the original players. They asked us to shell out a monthly fee to play then just unloaded expansions every 6 months instead of focusing on the problems that plagued the game. When I quit playing it was simply because the game started to become like a job, which was not fun anymore, and progress was slow and loot was even slower.
On the emulator server its fun to actually do stuff again, and not deal with stupid shit all the time. I don't have to spend 10 straight hours in lower guk just to gain a level. And it makes playing other classes fun too, I'd never played a druid or cleric prior to making them on the emulator server, because it always took so long to level up that I just stuck with my wiz.
Now I can just casually hang out and play, the emphasis on casual, because most of us on the emulator have jobs and don't have the time or energy to play the game 24/7. But we can get the same amount of stuff in less time than the live servers. And we get to hang with old friends at the same time.
Personally I'll never play EQ on a live server, or even venture into EQ2, I'm gonna stick with the emulator and accomplish things while still being casual. Besides, the people who made the game fun aren't there anymore, so what's the point?

Re: Living Legacy
Thank you for your opinions. I'm not telling one to play.. mearly revealing an option that has brought me a smile. I believe I quit EQ originally because everyone else left, just like WoW~ not because of the aforementioned "bullshit." In both cases I would have kept playing and did, long after my core of friends flaked.
I can enjoy myself wherever I am, whatever I'm doing ~ I don't get dismayed when something is tough or drawn-out. All of that stuff is inconsequential compared to the real reason I play an MMO ~ community and friendship.
I wasn't asking you to drop something and replace it with another. It was an opinion and a suggestion at best. A re-review of EQ for the boards. Hardly a campaign. I didn't expect anyone to try it, but I was reporting my experience and thought it was interesting. I will most likely do the same for Wrath of the Lich King (not to convince, but to report). I believe these are public forums that all read and post upon~ not just the handful from Quellious 2008.
I am looking forward to eventually heading through each expansion with all of you. EQ looks like it has an amazing story to tell us.

ps: camps, big raids, absurdly rare drop rates, never-ending quests, slow AA's in my perception are all amazing things. Not to mention that raids are all sizes, they've introduced instances, drops aren't absurb, quests are intuitive, and to me, AA's are something to be earned along the way, not a focal point that could ever annoy me or make me quit a game. You think a team who's worked on a game for over nine years doesn't have some insight on how to make a good MMO? Once again, just my opinion - don't have to go and write another diatribe of excuses.
Other great games that may have blown at release but deserve a second look~ Remember, these are opinions, not trying to convince anyone of anything;
DDO, beautifully designed dungeons that make one actually think (traps, puzzles, interesting bosses) wrapped in a D & D atmosphere.
LotRO, cookie-cutter and linear, but has great concepts and an amazing community. Innovative raids and dungeons.
EQ2, cookie-cutter classes and skills, but has great features and a great community as well. Unique experience and encounters with nostalgic moments.
Eve, difficult learning curve and no avatars (but they're in the process of adding them) ~ totally different style mmo and all players on one server. Crazy feuds that have been going on since release and a hilarious community.

Re: Living Legacy
I totally respect your opinion, and the reason I played as long as I did was because of my friend and community, but eventually things just got tiresome. After reading my post, I realize that it came off as a little crass, and I do apologize for that, I meant no personal attack against you.
In terms of other games I'm actually getting a bit interested in the upcoming Warhammer Online game that is supposed to come out this fall. It looks fairly interesting, made by the people who did Dark Age of Camelot.

I'm lame (actually, not lame) and don't have time for games. Free is better because if I'm only going to pretent to play, it costs me less money. Also, I'm done with MMO's foreva

Yes, WAR looks quite revolutionary. It's been a while since a good RvRealm (if any since DAoC) has come out. Earthrise and Darkfall are also on my list~ skill-based games with no classes and a lot of interesting features.
Andy, I think you said that after EQ =O
